This year we planned our third annual croquet event for an evening in June so that we would benefit from the longer evening but instead we were blighted by a forecast of torrential rain! Undaunted we re-scheduled for Wednesday July 27th and kept our fingers crossed! Fortunately the evening was bright but breezy.

A group of over 20 members of SI Chester; SI Runcorn, Frodsham, and District; friends and family took to the lawns under the patient guidance of Chester Croquet Club President, Sarah Andrew, and several other club members. Soon the sounds of mallet on ball, laughter and/or cries of dismay were ringing around the grounds. I suspect there was rather more levity than at the regular club events!

Mavis Sellers took charge ‘front of house’ organising both a raffle and a friendly tournament, which was won in great style by Susi MacLean. Val Capewell provided another of her stunning fork suppers all of which she had cooked at home and transported to Westminster Park. The event raised over £275.00 which has been donated to Chester Aid for the Homeless for the provision of essentials such as underwear and sanitary products for homeless women.

Yet again we are indebted to Chester Croquet Club for their generous support.
