{"id":4578,"date":"2021-03-31T09:57:56","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T08:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/chester\/?p=4578"},"modified":"2021-04-07T17:21:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T16:21:49","slug":"soroptimists-celebrate-100-years-planting-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/chester\/2021\/03\/31\/soroptimists-celebrate-100-years-planting-trees\/","title":{"rendered":"Soroptimists celebrate 100 years &#8211; Planting Trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Planting Trees for a Brilliant Future<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4580\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4580\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/chester\/files\/2021\/03\/treeplanting.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4580\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/chester\/files\/2021\/03\/treeplanting-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"group of women planting trees\" width=\"300\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/chester\/files\/2021\/03\/treeplanting-300x243.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/chester\/files\/2021\/03\/treeplanting.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4580\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SI Chester members planting young trees<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Members of SI Chester are supporting the Soroptimist Campaign to #PlantTrees for a Brilliant Future.\u00a0 Members recently planted a number of very young trees in King George V Field, Christleton, and at the Playing Field in Great Barrow to mark the 100-year anniversary of the founding of the first Soroptimist Club, in 1921, in Oakland California, USA.\u00a0 One of their first activities was to successfully campaign for the protection of the local Giant Redwood trees.\u00a0 In 2021, members of SI Chester are joining clubs from around the world to plant trees to mitigate the effects of Climate Change and commemorate our 100 years of service to support women and girls.\u00a0 It has been identified that the effects of climate change disproportionately affect women and girls in climate-sensitive regions, so working towards carbon dioxide reduction was an obvious project to get involved with.\u00a0 Our trees will be added to the Soroptimist <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/tree-planting-map\/\">Tree planting Map.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have planted a range of local, native trees such as field maple, rowan, flowering cherry blossom and birch and look forward to seeing them grow over the next 50 years.
