{"id":5221,"date":"2016-11-01T17:03:46","date_gmt":"2016-11-01T16:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cirencester\/?p=5221"},"modified":"2023-04-03T17:04:19","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T16:04:19","slug":"pancreatic-cancer-awareness-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cirencester\/2016\/11\/01\/pancreatic-cancer-awareness-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]TWO of the Cotswolds\u2019 most well-known churches were bathed in purple light as part of a crusade to raise awareness of the disease that killed a much loved husband and father.<\/p>\n<p>Sue &amp; Sarah Dennis, of West Hay Grove, Kemble, have ensured that\u00a0<a title=\"SI Cirencester Cirencester parish Church\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cirenparish.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cirencester Parish Church<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"SI Cirencester Kemble church\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kemblechurch.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kemble Church\u00a0<\/a>were flying the flag for Pancreatic Cancer UK on Sunday, November 1 as part of the charity\u2019s national Purple Lights for Hope campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Both churches will take on a striking purple complexion for the night to raise awareness of the disease which is Britain\u2019s 10th most common cancer, but its fifth most deadly.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2873\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cirencester\/files\/2015\/12\/Purple-St-John-the-Baptist-Church-cirencester-199x300.png\" alt=\"Purple St John the Baptist Church, cirencester\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cirencester\/files\/2015\/12\/Purple-St-John-the-Baptist-Church-cirencester-199x300.png 199w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cirencester\/files\/2015\/12\/Purple-St-John-the-Baptist-Church-cirencester.png 266w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pancreatic cancer is not a well-known disease in Britain, but it is a particularly dangerous type of the disease because its symptoms are often confused for regular stomach pains, meaning it can be diagnosed when it is too late.<br \/>\nSarah lost her father (&amp; Sue her husband), John Dennis, to pancreatic cancer in July 2013 after he was diagnosed a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah\u2019s sister, Rachel, who along with their mum, Sue, has also been involved in the campaign, got married on June 30 at her father\u2019s bedside, a couple of days before he died. She brought the wedding forward when they knew he didn\u2019t have long left so he could still give her away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe spoke to many people about Pancreatic Cancer, distributed a lot of information leaflets and, at the last count, we raised over \u00a31200 for the charity.
