18 October every year: Raising awareness of modern-day slavery and human trafficking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Whilst the\u00a0transatlantic slave trade<\/strong>\u00a0was outlawed in 1807 and\u00a0slavery is prohibited internationally<\/strong>\u00a0by Article 4 of\u00a0the\u00a0Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/a>, there are still an estimated 12.3 million people across the world in slavery today, forced to work for little or no pay.<\/p>\n

The UK\u00a0Anti-Slavery Day Act<\/strong>\u00a0was passed into law in April 2010, and the first\u00a0Anti-Slavery Day<\/strong>\u00a0took place\u00a0on\u00a018 October\u00a02010<\/strong>.
