Welcome to SI Cockermouth and District<\/span><\/h2>\r\nWe are part of a worldwide women’s voluntary organisation working to improve the lives of women and girls at a local, national and international level.<\/span>\r\n\r\nCockermouth is a market town situated a short distance outside the English Lake District on its north-west fringe. The name refers to the town’s position by the confluence of the River Cocker into the River Derwent.<\/span>\r\n

\u00a0Our club was founded in 1981 and boasts 38 members some of whom join us from Carlisle, Penrith and Whitehaven.<\/span><\/p>\r\nSI Cockermouth & District meet on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month at Hundith Hill Hotel, Lorton Vale, Cockermouth, Cumbria CA13 9TH 700pm for 7.30pm.<\/span>\r\n

4th June 2026 –\u00a0 Cath Bell<\/span><\/h3>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]For our speaker meeting this month we were joined by Catherine Bell, local business women and town councillor.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\"\"Catherine talked of her life, up bringing and how at the age of 30 she took over one of the town newsagents. A business she ran, until recently, for a significant number of years, alongside bringing up a family and helping her son to develop his farm. \u00a0Most children ask for a dog, cat or budgies. Not Catherines son, he acquired a herd of cows at 16!<\/span>\r\n\r\nShe demonstrated her resilience, community spirit and sheer determination to get things done.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe club were thoroughly entertained and we wish Cathrine every success in her new adventures.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Walking to Raise Awareness – VAWG\r\nSTOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center” css_animation=”none”][vc_column_text]\r\n
