Taylors Butcher<\/strong>\u00a0– on 9 September, 2014, Mr John Taylor entertained us with his reminiscences about his life in an Earlsdon Butcher’s shop at the same time as demonstrating how sausages are mixed and made by hand. \u00a0The sausages were distributed among members, and taken home to sample with our families – delicious!!<\/span><\/p>\n

20th Century Women<\/strong>\u00a0– on 8 July, we welcomed two representatives of the Womens Research Group. \u00a0They told us about how their group researches and publishes information about local women who have made a contribution to life in the area. We also had the opportunity to purchase their publications.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ruth Ellis<\/strong>\u00a0– on 13 May, 2014, Robert Osborn gave us a very interesting presentation about the life, loves and death of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be executed in UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ifakara Bakery<\/strong>\u00a0– On 11 March, 2014, Eugene and Margaret Schellenberg came to speak to us about the\u00a0Ifakara Bakery Project<\/a>\u00a0in Tanzania. \u00a0<\/span>This couple started the bakery project themselves after visiting their son and his family, who were living and working in Ifakara. \u00a0The bakery has been operating for 12 years and produces 400-900 loaves daily; it is run by the Sisters of St Francis. \u00a0<\/span>Associated with the bakery are the Free Bread Funds, which provide bread to kindergartens, nurseries and primary schools as well as to 9 wards in the St Francis District Hospital and patients sat the Nazareti Leprosy Centre. \u00a0The ‘Breakfast Programme’ has improved children’s health and learning ability, as well as encouraging more children to attend school regularly.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
