\"Crosby<\/a>Soroptimist International of Crosby recently held a “Get to know us” open evening in order to interest potential new members.<\/p>\n

President Sandy Taylor hosted the evening. She described her presidential year so far – and what her membership means to her. Three representatives of local organisations that have benefitted from the Soroptimists’ fundraising and practical service then outlined their work.<\/p>\n

Lesley Paterson, Chief Executive of Sefton Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Aid (SWACA<\/a>) spoke about the longstanding valuable links between the Club and SWACA. The charity’s Board has, for many years, included a Soroptimist; and members have supported the successive appeals and projects.<\/p>\n

Sightline Vision Northwest <\/a>is a young charity that helps people experiencing sight loss, as well as their family and friends. Eileen Green, founder, was delighted to tell guests more about its aims, and how the Soroptimists have already given practical assistance.<\/p>\n

The third speaker was Mr Nelson Alphonso, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital<\/a>, who provided information about the Alder Hey\u00a0Cardiac Research Appeal. His presentation managed to cover medical, financial and ethical matters in a very short space of time – and he kept his audience engrossed.<\/p>\n

\"crosby<\/a>Margaret Davies, Regional Membership Officer, spoke about Soroptimist International, and urged the guests to take time to find out more about clubs and their activities. Regional President of South Lancashire, Jenny Stanistreet (a member of SI Crosby) concluded the evening with a vote of thanks.<\/p>\n

Crosby’s Membership Officer, Pat Williams, organised the evening. “We were delighted to welcome fourteen guests, including the Mayoress of Sefton, Carol Cummings. We aimed for a welcoming, friendly atmosphere – an attractive display about Soroptimism – and a trio of interesting speakers. Feedback has been flattering – our guests seem to have found the whole experience very enjoyable and informative. We shall keep in touch and invite them to come to a regular meeting. I do hope they will decide to become Soroptimists.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
