[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\"School<\/a>Members of Soroptimist International, Crosby, organised their fourth annual STEM conference for local girls.<\/p>\n

Nearly one hundred pupils from Crosby and Formby schools attended. All were keen to find out more about S<\/strong>cience, T<\/strong>echnology, E<\/strong>ngineering and M<\/strong>athematics.<\/p>\n

The Soroptimists welcomed girls from Merchant Taylor\u2019s Girls\u2019 School, Holy Family High, St Mary\u2019s College and St Michael\u2019s High (all in Crosby) plus Range High in Formby.<\/p>\n

Speakers were all young women in the early years of their STEM careers. They included microbiologists from Liverpool Clinical Laboratories and vehicle engineers from Jaguar Land Rover.<\/p>\n

A Liverpool University PhD student explained her research in the field of fusion energy. The girls also heard about human tissue donation, part of NHS Blood and Transplant, based in Speke.<\/p>\n

\"School<\/a>A former local pupil, now working in a Liverpool practice, spoke about architecture. Maths and creativity can combine harmoniously in this STEM career.<\/p>\n

Soroptimists aim to transform the lives of women and girls. Crosby club\u2019s STEM conferences<\/a> have made an impact on the way many girls approach subject choices and long-term careers.<\/p>\n

As one teacher has said: \u201cAll of the girls felt more knowledgeable and empowered and now believe they are capable of going into whichever career they decide, despite gender stereotypes\u201d.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
