Sylvia Pearl, from the Dianne Oxberry Trust<\/a>, spoke to Crosby\u2019s Soroptimists about the work of this young, north-west-based charity.<\/p>\n

The trust\u2019s aim is to raise awareness of the symptoms<\/a> of ovarian cancer. Symptoms? These include bloating \u2013 pelvic pain \u2013 loss of appetite \u2013 bladder problems \u2013 unusual tiredness \u2013 bleeding after the menopause.<\/p>\n

Sylvia stressed the importance of recognising the signs. If they last a few weeks take action quickly and seek medical advice. Believe in yourself and how you feel, she urged – press for a blood test that could lead to a diagnosis. The earlier the diagnosis, the greater are the chances of a good outcome.<\/p>\n

The Trust is named after Dianne Oxberry, the broadcaster well known in north-west England. Dianne died so young from ovarian cancer.<\/p>\n

The trust was founded in the north-west. However, through the support of Soroptimists \u2013 and the power of \u2018virtual\u2019 meetings during lockdown \u2013 the charity has been able to spread the word country-wide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
