December saw Crosby Soroptimists busy\u00a0 with active assistance, festive fun … and Santa support.<\/h5>\n

Once again members volunteered at St Joseph\u2019s Hospice, Thornton, for the \u2018Light Up A Life\u2019 service. Visitors always appreciate hot drinks and mince pies on a cold night, and Soroptimists were on hand to help out. It\u2019s a busy evening, but a great opportunity to support the hospice.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”white”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1703105064578-6285e931-70cd-7″ include=”6741,6744,6751,6742″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In response to a plea from Thornton Parish Council, SI Crosby members helped Santa get to the Christmas lights \u2018switch on\u2019 in the village. His eco-friendly decorated bike ensured he was on time!<\/p>\n

The Soroptimists were able to collect for local causes during the festivities, plus the parish council added a generous donation. Pedal-powered sustainable Santa was \u2018hit\u2019 with everyone.<\/p>\n

Santa also needed the Soroptimists\u2019 assistance when wild windy weather grounded Rudolph and the sleigh. This help meant he was still able to greet shoppers at Waitrose store, Formby – but in the (relative) comfort of the foyer.<\/p>\n

Once again this was a fundraising opportunity, with the Soroptimists raising over \u00a3300 for local good causes from generous shoppers.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”white”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1703105064587-4420fc95-af7c-3″ include=”6748,6746,6745,6747″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Fundraising continued in-house at the Soroptimists\u2019 final meeting of the year. Many members stuffed the traditional giant Christmas card with ready money in lieu of giving individual cards. The club\u2019s executive team had donated seasonal goodies for gift hampers. These were raffled on the night. Proceeds from both initiatives went to President Jill\u2019s nominated charity, South Sefton Foodbank<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Entertainment at this social meeting featured the Formby U3A Ukulele Group. They played a lively selection of seasonal music. Quiz-time followed \u2013 nothing too taxing, and generally good-humoured.<\/p>\n

President Jill thanked all members who had volunteered, fundraised and organised so much in the run-up to Christmas.
