{"id":7461,"date":"2025-05-04T23:35:46","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T22:35:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/crosby\/?p=7461"},"modified":"2025-05-06T11:49:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T10:49:35","slug":"lunt-meadows-dream-and-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/crosby\/2025\/05\/04\/lunt-meadows-dream-and-reality\/","title":{"rendered":"Lunt Meadows : Dream and Reality"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>On World Earth Day Crosby Soroptimists and a host of other invited guests celebrated the official opening of Lunt Meadows Learning Centre.<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/crosby\/our-projects\/lunt-meadows\/\">SI Crosby&#8217;s long-term project<\/a> is at Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve. It is partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancswt.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside<\/a> (LWT) and other institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The 5-year project \u2013 \u2018Presenting Mesolithic and Modern Life\u2019 \u2013 has been grant-aided through the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Its focus has been the construction of a learning centre.<\/p>\n<p>Through the challenges of Covid, Brexit, planning issues, flooding (and much more) the dream has finally become reality. The centre is poised to host educational, social and skills-based activities, triggered by the Mesolithic archaeology and unique environment of the reserve. It will also be a focal point for local community groups and a welcome resource for the many volunteers at the reserve.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;white&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid element_width=&#8221;3&#8243; grid_id=&#8221;vc_gid:1746398259291-0d8ddd5e-ed34-2&#8243; include=&#8221;7467,7464,7465,7466&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Soroptimists have donated a KnifeSavers\u2019 bleed control kit (mounted on an external wall) and baby-changing equipment. The main internal toilets have been twinned with a latrine in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
