Crosby Soroptimists welcomed staff from Sefton Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Aid<\/a> (SWACA) to talk about the charity\u2019s work.<\/h5>\n

Neil Frackelton (Chief Executive) and Angie Quinn (Business Manager) gave an update on domestic violence nationally and in Sefton. The picture is grim. For example, in England and Wales 1 in 4 women over the age of 16 report experience of domestic abuse; every 40 seconds the police record a domestic abuse case; and 2 women per week are killed by their current or former partner.<\/p>\n

SWACA\u2019s core function is to safeguard adults, young people and children throughout Sefton. The charity supports them in surviving the impact of domestic abuse. Its practical and emotional help is provided regardless of age, disability, sexuality, race or religion – and is free.<\/p>\n

People are deeply affected by the trauma of domestic abuse, subsequently facing mental health challenges over many years. Physical abuse and coercive control \u00a0are both destructive. A recent assessment in Sefton has shown that many older women have faced \u2013 alone \u2013 long-term abuse. SWACA has therefore obtained funding for an older person\u2019s caseworker to address this.<\/p>\n

Child-on-parent violence, safeguarding issues in faith organisations, economic or emotional abuse \u2013 all come under the SWACA umbrella. The charity is busier than ever and, as always, facing tough financial challenges.<\/p>\n

Soroptimist Shirley Smith thanked Neil and Angie for providing such a comprehensive update. The club has been associated with SWACA for many years, through practical help and fundraising. Shirley was delighted, therefore to present copies of the booklet \u201cFresh Thoughts\u201d<\/a> for SWACA staff\u2019s use in their ongoing support of women and children in Sefton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
