Comfort Teddy Pattern

Using Double knitting wool and size 10 needles, cast on 10 stitches in the paw colour and knit 10 rows.

Change to trouser colour, knit 30 rows. Leave on a spare needle and knit another leg to match.

Knit across the two legs, now 20 stitches in all. Knit 16 rows in trouser colour.

Change to jumper colour, knit 24 rows.

Change to paw colour and knit 5 and a half inches of one row plain, one row purl.

Change to jumper colour, knit 24 rows.

Change to trouser colour, knit 16 rows.

Knit 10 stitches and turn, complete leg and paw as before. Join in wool and knit another leg.

Arms – Sew round the head. Pick up and knit 8 stitches either side of the head (16 stitches). Knit 20 rows in jumper colour and 10 rows in paw colour. Cast off.

Scarf – Cast on 75 stiches and knit 5 rows. Cast off.

Sewing up – Sew paws, arms and sides, also sew inner legs, leaving an opening for stuffing.Stitch up corners of head with a running stitch to make ears. Stitch on eyes, nose and a smiling mouth. Sew running stitches around the neck base and draw up to shape head and neck

Materials and Equipment

Double Knit (UK) in any combination of cream (paw colour) and pastel colours (body colour)
One pair knitting needles 3.25mm (No.10)

Instructions

1. Cast on 8sts in paw colour and garter stitch 6 rows.

2. Change to body colour and garter stitch 10 rows. Keep these stitches on needle and repeat No. 1 & 2 to knit other leg.

3. Knit across 16sts and garter stitch for 20 rows.

4. Change to head colour and stocking stitch for 36 rows.

5. Change to body colour and garter stitch for 20 rows.

6 Knit legs as No.1 & 2.

7. Join head seams. Pick up 12sts for arms and garter stitch 8 rows in body colour, change to paw colour and garter stitch 6 rows.

To make up teddy

Sew seams and stuff with washable wadding. Stitch face features.
