Members<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

Our 28 members come from a range of backgrounds and ages and length of service with the Club. \u00a0One member has been with us since the Club was chartered in 1980 and three members only joined recently.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We all belong to one interest group (see below)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When and where we meet<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

We meet on the second Monday of the month(with the exception of August and December) at Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club (just off the A4042 on Treherbert Road, Croesyceiliog) at 7p.m.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition we have\u00a0events <\/span>\u00a0either<\/span><\/span> to raise funds for our different Charities and Projects or as awareness sessions about our <\/span>Programme Action <\/span>\u00a0work. \u00a0We also meet for coffee once a month or so at different venues.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our AGM is usually held in April when the new President(s) present their\u00a0programme<\/span> for the year and also choice of Charities. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Four times a year there are Regional meeting when members from the different Clubs in South Wales meet and new members are encouraged to attend these. \u00a0Once a year there is an annual conference usually held in the UK but it has also been held in Barbados and in Malta and every 4 years there is an international Conference.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

artREGEN<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

SI Cwmbran together with the Women\u2019s institutes of Cwmavon and Pontnewynydd set up <\/span>artREGEN<\/span> in 1998 to help in the regeneration of Pontypool through the Arts; some members are on the artREGEN Committee whilst other members help\/support their events and fundraising.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our Insignia<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

When the Club was chartered in 1980, the founder members felt that the insignia should reflect the past and present history of the Torfaen Valley. \u00a0This was a time of great change in the industrial \u00a0fortunes of South Wales. \u00a0The coalmines were closing and the steelworks contracting. \u00a0The members wanted to show that the heavy industry workers would not be forgotten, \u00a0Panteg Steel Works was approached to provide the stainless steel. \u00a0The Management of the works offered to make and donate the insignia. \u00a0This was done.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The base of the \u2018gong\u2019 is made of stainless steel. \u00a0The black circle represents the coal industry. \u00a0On this is the engraved stainless steel bearing the name of the Club. \u00a0The illustration is a depiction of the valley, the Afon Llwyd, and the mountains over which is an illustration of a crow which is the symbol of the New Town \u2013 \u201cCwm\u2019\u201dbeing valley and \u201cbran\u201d crow.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
