<\/div>\n<\/div>\nWe had decided to celebrate Soroptimist International\u2019s centenary at our October meeting . What a lovely night ! You know sometimes everything just gels and goes really well . Most of our club members were able to attend and we were delighted 3 members of Abergavenny club were able to join us . People were invited to dress in 1920\u2019s style or wear hats and gloves . We were delighted how many did !! Family photographs from the 1920\u2019s were shared .<\/div>\nWe started the evening with Edith Price our founder member lighting a candle and proposing the toast to Soroptimist International .<\/div>\nFollowing a lovely meal (thank you to Greenmeadow Golf club ) we were entertained with 1920\u2019s music and singing . Anniversary Lunch ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cwmbran\/files\/2020\/05\/balloons-3.jpg\")

On March 1st 2020 the club hosted an anniversary meal at\u00a0Cwrt Bleddyn to celebrate their 40 years as a Club\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0which was attended by many past and current members.\u00a0 The celebration was enhanced by the attendance of John Sheen and Member of Parliament Nick Thomas-Symonds who both gave entertaining after dinner speeches.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0Activities over the 40 years have included race evenings, fashion shows, musical evenings, meals, afternoon teas, raffles and quiz nights. \u00a0Over our 40 years we have raised over \u00a375,000 for good causes and a further \u00a320,000 for St David\u2019s Hospice Care.<\/span><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cwmbran\/files\/2020\/05\/50AD2256-0C58-4F34-B215-A1277F777675-300x213.jpeg\")

International Women\u2019s Day<\/b><\/p>\n
Later that week on 7 March our third year running \u00a0nine of our members attended the International Women\u2019s Day event at the Riverfront in Newport<\/span><\/p>\nEntitled An Equal World is an Enabled World. There were many groups represented with an inspirational female focus, they presented activities, workshops, demonstrations, performances, discussions and amazing guest speakers.<\/span><\/p>\nThere was free Yoga, Zumba, Core, self-defence, massage, circus skills, dance, film screenings, vocalists, arts activity and much more all\u00a0 running throughout the day.<\/span><\/p>\nOur stall showcased the activities and the breadth of what we do. \u00a0From the STEM book presented to Primary schools and the over 400 Comfort Teddies given to all the emergency services and now being extended to Primary schools. \u00a0<\/span>We were also able to sell our pre loved jewellery<\/span><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/cwmbran\/files\/2020\/05\/International-Womens-Day-300x225.jpg\")

2023<\/strong><\/h2>\nNovember<\/p>\n
Members of SI Cwmbran enjoyed a coffee morning at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre today to promote the start of ‘Orange the World 2023’ 16 Days of Activism. The club promotional board was placed in the foyer which will be left for visitors to the centre and cafe to see over the next two weeks. Thanks to Llantarnam Grange for their co-operation.<\/p>\n

Our guest speakers at our business meeting were Caroline and Jo from Torfaen Voluntary Alliance about what they can offer the community in terms of advice and support.<\/p>\n
October<\/strong><\/p>\nWe had a very successful and enjoyable musical evening at Ponthir Village Hall on 13 October, certainly not unlucky for us. \u00a0 We raised \u00a31,118 for our Club Charities including St David’s Hospice Care and MS Society Cymru. \u00a0We \u00a0were entertained by the very talented Harmonize choir as well as individual artists singing, playing the harp, saxophone and piano.<\/p>\n
At our business meeting, Richard Watkins from Age Cymru Gwent talked to us about all the scams we need to be aware of.<\/p>\n
This month we donated small teddies to the neo-natal unit at the Grange and will be donating them to ‘Seren Dwt’.<\/p>\n

St David\u2019s Hospice Care has for many years been our ongoing charity and since 1990 we have donated nearly \u00a322,000 since then and in March \u00a0Sallie donated 20 comfort bears to them.<\/p>\n

Cwmbran held a very successful Charity St David\u2019s lunch at Greenmeadow Golf Club.<\/div>\n<\/div>\nWe were pleased to be joined by the High Sheriff of Gwent Mr. Malgwyn Davies and his wife Margaret.<\/div>\n<\/div>\nOur other guest was Helen Pearce who has knitted Character Teddies for us to sell in aid of St David\u2019s Hospice Care.
