Club History

SI Denbigh Ruthin and District was chartered in 1953, so we celebrated our 65th birthday last year. At our Friendship Lunch in October we sang to our visitors, properly attired like ladies from 1953 complete with gloves and handbags. We thought about  the world events of that date and how the status of women has changed in the intervening years

When we looked into our history we discovered that all the documentation from our early years

The first (and probably last) public performance by the Club choir

is lodged in the Denbighshire County Archives. An early President was meticulous in retaining photographs, invitations, newspaper reports and so on. There is a wealth of material to be studied when time permits. We are visiting the Archives on Sept 12, to reflect on the changes that have happened since the Club charter was awarded.

here are our members at work in the archives, and her is one of the photographs of the original charter dinner that we found. The ladies were so formally dressed in 1953
