City of Dundee Burgess Charity Schools’ Short Story Competition

The City of Dundee Burgess Charity, which  was established in 2011, organised a short story competition for secondary school pupils. Three members of SI Dundee are City Burgesses so the Dundee Soroptimist Club agreed to donate six runners up prizes. The prize was a copy of SI Dundee member and local author, Pam Cairns’  latest  novel ‘Trampled Shoots’.

On Wednesday June 11th the young Dundee writers came together for a civic celebration and prize-giving ceremony at Dundee City Chambers.

The S3 pupils  were asked to submit stories with Dundee as the theme. Erin Findlay of St John’s High School claimed the trophy for her school with her story, ‘A Day in the Mill’, inspired by school trips to the jute mills.
