President Elaine’s Message 2017-18

OPTIMISTIC for THE FUTURE

P1012086 - Copy

I am excited to be given a second opportunity as president of Soroptimist International of Dundee. As I have been re-cycled, this gives me another chance to help shape the future of our club and with that in mind my theme for this year is:

“ Optimistic For our Future “

The future is what we have to look to as nothing stays the same, times change and our club must move forward too. However we must also build on the strong projects already in place.

For example:

Having made Dundee the first Toilet Twinned City in Scotland, we are now rolling this out into the County of Angus and working to bring the public on board.

Having contributed to the provision of a home for the children of trafficked sex workers in Pune, India, through Seema’s Project, we will continue to provide support as it requires to be furnished and adequate security has to be put in place.

These are both long term projects and require continued support as they provide a future for children, women and girls who find themselves in extremely difficult and dangerous circumstances.

Members of our club are invited to attend at the Scottish Parliament for Cross Party Discussions on Trafficking and Prison Reform. We are optimistic that our input will be for the betterment of women and girls in those situations, providing them with a future.

Optimism is part of the Soroptimist psyche and I am optimistic that women and girls in the Dundee and Angus area will want to become members of our organisation which helps provide a future for others. This is my challenge for my club.

President Elaine Ferrie.
