Raising our profile and raising funds for SI South Kolkata

The sun shone and the money rolled in when members sold bric-a-brac at the Rotary Gala Charity Stall event in Dundee City Square. Over £320 was raised for education and vocational training projects for women and girls in South Kolkata, India. This project continues to grow today 2 yrs on  – links with SI Kolkata are stronger than ever – our ambassador member Dianne Stout has got colleague member support through helping produce learning resources for the school that SISK are working on. The resources are for the Free School project where the chidren are learning to read and count – Dianne is all set to hear the chanting of the ‘times tables’ we all did when we were at school. Dianne is visiting the club within the next few weeks – at SI Dundee we wish her and her husband Brian a safe journey

Dundee Soroptimists acted as sighted helpers at the National Federation of the Blind UK Central Branch Conference on 13th June in Perth.  4 of them are seen in the centreback row along with the speakers while delegates and their 4-legged ‘eyes’ are seated. This is one of our favourite projects supporting this friendly group who have so many difficulties themselves which they accept and work with on a daily basis. Around 6 members of our club get involved and enjoy the work but we continually have a lot to learn in trying not to ask ‘stupid’ questions like ‘where did you hang your coat and what colour is it?!’ Thankfully they just laugh and are also so grateful for the support they get from us
