{"id":4825,"date":"2022-11-15T18:45:43","date_gmt":"2022-11-15T17:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/durham\/?p=4825"},"modified":"2022-11-15T19:19:50","modified_gmt":"2022-11-15T18:19:50","slug":"jubilee-charter-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/durham\/2022\/11\/15\/jubilee-charter-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Jubilee Charter Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>SI Durham, Platinum Jubilee Dinner and 75<sup>th<\/sup> Charter Anniversary<\/u><\/p>\n<p>On Friday 10<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0June SI Durham hosted a Platinum Jubilee Dinner with a very special guest of honour: \u00a0Her Majesty\u2019s Lord Lieutenant of Durham, Sue Snowdon. We were joined by sister Soroptimists from other clubs around the region, and even a member from Northern Ireland!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There was a celebratory atmosphere at the Ballroom, Ramside Hall. Our event committee had made a superb job of dressing the venue, with balloons, bunting and beautiful table decorations! Favours for guests included a commemorative Platinum Jubilee brooch and a crown shaped chocolate truffle, from local chocolatiers Chocolatrice. (their delicious chocolate can be purchased online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lachocolatrice.co.uk\/\">www.lachocolatrice.co.uk<\/a>\u00a0!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After a superb three course meal Sue Snowdon gave her after-dinner speech.<\/p>\n<p>Sue explained the role of Lord Lieutenant as the Queen\u2019s representative in County Durham.\u00a0 She is the first woman to hold the role and has a great many anecdotes from her time in post!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was very interesting to learn how Sue is involved in planning and hosting royal visits to the area, her involvement with the armed forces and her commitment to the young people of the area.\u00a0This Jubilee year has been particularly busy with celebratory events.\u00a0 Sue told us how children from primary schools across Durham were selected to join the Choristers of Durham Cathedral Choir to form the Platinum Choir to perform an anthem \u201cThe Call of Wisdom\u201d written by local composer Will Todd in the Thanksgiving Service in Durham Cathedral during the Jubilee Weekend. Those of us who had been at the service agreed how beautifully the children had sung!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The evening was a great success, and lovely to see people face to face again.\u00a0 It was a chance to renew old friendships and make new ones.
