Is it time to make women's history visible?  At Soroptimist East London we think so.  We're huge fans of women's history - why? Because it's our history - the stories of all the women who have contributed to making us who we are today. So we asked Rachel Crossley, Director of the East End Women's Museum to tell us more about what they are doing to make women's history of East London visible to all. What has international environmental law got to do with Soroptimists?

You might be wondering, what has international environmental law got to do with Soroptimists or women’s empowerment. Manashi Mohanti[1] said that women are “last consulted, first affected” on issues affecting their environment.   So, if we are to empower ourselves and other women, and leave a healthy planet for future generations, it’s important we know what’s going on with the environment and how environmental issues are regulated. Environmental protection and sustainability are also at the core of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which drive all of Soroptimist East London’s work. So we were very privileged to hear from eminent environmental law Professor Malgosia Fitzmaurice[2], Chair of Public International Law at Queen Mary University of London at our June 2020 speaker meeting. Fun, feisty, fabulous & female-focused online covid-lockdown quiz – open to Soroptimists! On 5 May 2020, East London Soroptimists host the second of their fun, feisty, fabulous and female focused online quizes.  The first quiz was a real test of female-focused general knowledge.  There were questions about which countries have the highest number of women representatives in parliament, questions about women in history and much more.  It was huge fun for everyone no matter how many questions they got right. We’re looking forward to this second quiz on 5 May 2020.
