Welcome back after our Summer recess\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Welcome back everyone!\u00a0 I hope all of you have had some down time over the last couple of months and are ready for action in the Autumn. In particular around the 16 days of activism!<\/p>\n

There are clear signs that the new government at Westminster intend to take the issue of violence against women and girls seriously so let\u2019s think about what we might do to maintain the pressure on them (and the Scottish government) to properly resource support for survivors of abuse and be bold in taking steps towards eradicating it altogether. \u00a0Let us hope \u2013 and perhaps remind the Scottish government \u2013 that they have made a commitment to enact the Misogyny legislation and that we see it right at the top of the priority list in their legislative programme for 2024 \u2013 2025.<\/p>\n

We have forged great partnerships already (Edinburgh College of Art, LinkNet, Edinburgh City Council VAWG, contact with St. Brides\/Edinburgh Community services\/The Welcoming) I look forward to developing these together and creating new opportunities for activity and advocacy that enables, empowers and educates women and girls.<\/p>\n

We met for our August Orange cafe at the Edinburgh Book Festival cafe this August. It was situated in the Edinburgh Futures Institute. An exciting refurbishment of the old Royal Infirmary, now part of Edinburgh University. How exciting it would be to be able to develop a collaborative project with them that involves young women from the community!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s see what our considerable collective talents come up with.<\/p>\n

We are looking forward to welcoming Soroptimists to Edinburgh for the SIGBI conference at the beginning of November. More on that I am sure, to follow, but in the meantime information about the conference programme and registration, from the conference organisers, can be found here\u00a0https:\/\/sigbi.org\/edinburgh2024\/<\/a><\/p>\n
