{"id":6090,"date":"2022-03-17T16:08:57","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T15:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/epsom-and-district\/?p=6090"},"modified":"2023-03-17T20:12:34","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T19:12:34","slug":"tree-planting-at-the-refuge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/epsom-and-district\/2022\/03\/17\/tree-planting-at-the-refuge\/","title":{"rendered":"Tree planting at the refuge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">It was a lovely autumn morning when Jenny and Veronica,\u00a0 two members of SI Epsom and District, set out to plant some trees at an I Choose Freedom\u00a0 refuge in Surrey.\u00a0 With trees in the back of the car and various pieces of equipment and materials, they were ready to tackle their latest project!<\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Two cherry trees had been selected, one for cooking cherries and one for eating cherries. When they reached the refuge they were greeted by <span class=\"il\">Sarah<\/span> and Courtney, two members of staff. It was Courtney&#8217;s job to dig the two holes, not easy, but she managed to do it very quickly!\u00a0 Jenny and Veronica then started to prepare the holes and trees for planting. A little mycorrhizae was added to help with the growth of the roots and compost was added to the soil.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Both trees were planted within the hour, an amazing feat!\u00a0 Some more members of staff came out to see the planting and were pleased\u00a0 to see\u00a0 the results of the morning&#8217;s efforts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Jenny and Veronica hope to return in the spring to see the blossom. The fruit should appear sometime in the summer.
