[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We were privileged to be invited by Sutton Women’s Centre to their International Women’s Day to promote the work of Soroptimists at Honeywood Museum, Carshalton. We had a stall in the building and were visited by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Sutton, who spent some time finding about the Club and the work that we do.\u00a0 A presentation was delivered by one of our members, Sally Curtis. She emphasised the range of projects we have been involved in over the years for women and girls locally, regionally and globally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We had formed a friendship link with Soroptimist International (SI) Lviv, Ukraine, in 2005. Orphanage No. 1 in the city of Lviv housed 110 orphan children, aged from birth to three, with different degrees of brain and psychological challenges.\u00a0 SI Lviv supported this orphanage through buying food, crockery, furniture, lights, shoes, cleaning products, medicines, accessories for physical training, sewing equipment, bed linen, plus many more items. Our Club was able to raise more funds to support this initiative at the time.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have kept in touch with the SI Lviv over the years and because of the current refugee crisis, we are now supporting them with funds raised by Club members, families and friends. We had a number of visitors to the stall and presentation who bought decorative paper flowers in yellow and blue, the colours on the Ukraine flag and the proceeds will be going towards the fundraising effort.\u00a0 Some of those visiting the stall and presentation then went on to express an interest in joining our Club<\/span><\/p>\n
