Who are Soroptimists?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The word Soroptimist is made up of the Latin words \u2018soror\u2019 meaning sister, and \u2018optima\u2019<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

meaning best; in other words, the best for sisters. The first Soroptimist club was founded in<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Oakland, California, in 1921, and now there are over 3000 Clubs all over the world.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Vision ~\u00a0<\/span>Women and girls will achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and\u00a0<\/span>have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Mission ~\u00a0<\/span>Soroptimists transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, <\/span><\/strong>empowerment and enabling opportunities.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Principles ~\u00a0<\/span>The principles of Soroptimism are to strive for:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • The advancement of the status of women;<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  • High ethical standards;<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Human rights for all;<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Equality, development and peace; and<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  • The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace<\/span><\/strong>
    \n
    \n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Pledge ~ <\/span>I pledge allegiance to Soroptimism<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    And to the ideals for which it stands;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    The sincerity of friendship,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    The joy of achievement,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    The dignity of service,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    The integrity of profession,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    The love of country.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    I will put forth my greatest\u00a0effort<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    To promote, uphold and defend these ideals<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    For a larger fellowship in home,\u00a0<\/span>in society, in business,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    For country and for God.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Objectives ~\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    To maintain high ethical standards in business,<\/span>in professions and in other aspects of life.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    To strive for human rights for all people and,<\/span>in particular, to advance the status of women.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    To develop a spirit of friendship and unity among\u00a0<\/span>Soroptimists of all countries.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    To quicken the spirit of service and human understanding.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
