Our History<\/span><\/h2>\n

Soroptimist International of Falkirk was founded on 3rd<\/sup> March 1945, a daughter club of SI Glasgow Central. There were eighteen\u00a0 founder members, and the last remaining two died in 1994. The initial meeting, attended\u00a0 by Glasgow and Edinburgh members, was held in the West Church Hall. <\/span><\/p>\n

Subsequently, members met in the Regal Caf\u00e9 where they had a meal costing 2\/9d. a head, this to include gratuities and the speaker\u2019s meal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We hold fortnightly meetings at The Grange Manor Hotel where we\u00a0 conduct business meetings, speakers evenings and many evenings of fellowship and friendship over a delicious meal.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Club was chartered in May 1945 by Dr Mary Stevenson, the Federation President. The Founder President was Miss Harriet Cairns, a Maternity Home Matron. The President\u2019s Badge \u2013 designed and made in the immediate post-war years, contained the badge of the old coat-of-arms of Falkirk and has since been modernised.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first Club Function was held in October 1948, since when there has been an annual dinner or lunch with each new Club President in attendance. In 2025 we will celebrate our 80th Charter Anniversary and plan a vibrant programme of events to mark this milestone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Falkirk Club has given considerable service to the Federation, and provided no less than SIX Scotland South Region Presidents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
