The Club\u2019s awareness raising campaign for the UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence began early this year.<\/p>\n

The Programme Action convenors had arranged a short meeting and photo opportunity with the Lord Provost of the City of Glasgow before local Tier 4 regulations came into force.\u00a0 The Lord Provost accepted and wore an\u00a0 orange bow tie to highlight the campaign.<\/p>\n

The UN System\u2019s\u00a016 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence<\/a>\u00a0activities, from 25 November to 10 December, will take place under our 2020 global theme: “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”<\/p>\n

As the world retreated inside homes due to the lockdown measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, reports showed an alarming increase in the already\u00a0existing pandemic of violence against women<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccompanying the crisis has been a spike in domestic violence reporting, at exactly the time that services, including rule of law, health and shelters, are being diverted to address the pandemic,\u201d stated the UN Secretary-General’s report, \u201cShared Responsibility, Global Solidarity: Responding to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

You<\/strong> can make a difference during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and protracted state of crisis it has generated across the world. You can support women and girl survivors of violence to stay safe and free of violence. Take action during this year\u2019s 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence.<\/p>\n

The\u00a016 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence<\/a>\u00a0is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women\u2019s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women\u2019s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.<\/p>\n

In support of this civil society initiative, under the leadership of the UN Secretary-General, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, the\u00a0United Nations Secretary-General\u2019s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign<\/a>\u00a0(UNiTE campaign) calls for global actions to increase awareness, galvanize advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
