The Meru Women’s Garden Project in Kenya\u00a0 is a project\u00a0 with Soroptimist International working with CHILD.org and CIFORD in Meru in Kenya. SI Grange are supporting this charity and started their fundraising with a\u00a0 Grease Film Singalong.\u00a0 and raised \u00a3562 .\u00a0 Fundraising in 2018 included a French Evening and Flower demonstration.<\/p>\n

In 2019 members raised \u00a388 from the sale of preserves at the Regional meeting. The money is for “Team Mum ” the project headed by Child.org and will improve maternity care for women in Meru.<\/p>\n

Why\u00a0 Meru in Kenya ?<\/p>\n

  • 41% of women and girls are malnourished<\/li>\n
  • HIV is prevalent<\/li>\n
  • 28% girls undergo FGM<\/li>\n
  • Only 11% complete secondary education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    By working with women\u00a0 we can\u00a0 help the whole community<\/p>\n

    • Women\u2019s Gardens – women become self sufficient and feed their families<\/li>\n
    • School gardens – improve the number of children attending school and improve nutrition<\/li>\n
    • Alternatives to FGM<\/li>\n
    • Environmental protection – Eco stoves reduce deforestation<\/li>\n
    • Supporting UN Sustainable Development goals – 1,2,3,4,5,8 and 13<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
