[vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid element_width=”6″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1601651142627-f0a48b5b-a269-7″ include=”650,651″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]For some time now members of the Grange Club have been collecting toiletries for Springfield<\/a> , where accommodation and support is given to seven single women who have been affected by domestic violence.\u00a0 The women share a kitchen, bathrooms and two reception rooms, and the aim is to provide them with the skills and self-confidence to live independently, and inspire them to achieve their own personal goals. They can stay there for up to two years, but most are ready to move on to independent living before that time.\u00a0 \u00a0Springfield has been providing safe accommodation for vulnerable women since 1915, and previously was a home for unmarried mothers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Although Springfield recives some funding\u00a0 and\u00a0 gets rental income, there is always a shortfall in the running costs. In 2011 \u00a0 the Club agreed to \u2018sponsor\u2019 a bedroom.\u00a0\u00a0 and wnen\u00a0 one room at the top of the house was vacated – and before the new occupier arrived \u2013 a team of four Soroptimists moved in with sandpaper, brushes and paint.\u00a0 It was remarkable how much could be achieved in just one day!\u00a0 As word spread, local shopkeepers kindly supplied \u2013 free of charge \u2013 a bedhead, a bedroom chair, pictures, new bedding and towels, a bedside lamp, a mirror, etc, etc.\u00a0 The pictures show the transformation that took place!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our continuing support with fundraising especially through the yearly Burns Nights in 2018, 2019<\/a>, 2020<\/a> has funded new bedding fo all new residents. The women\u00a0 can take their chosen bedding with them , when they move to their own accomodation.
