{"id":5460,"date":"2021-01-27T21:58:41","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T20:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/grange-over-sands\/?p=5460"},"modified":"2021-04-15T20:32:48","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T19:32:48","slug":"burns-night-fundraiser-to-help-eradicate-fgm-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/grange-over-sands\/2021\/01\/27\/burns-night-fundraiser-to-help-eradicate-fgm-in-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"Burns Night fundraiser to help eradicate FGM in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]6 February is International day for Zero tolerance of FGM\u00a0 ( Female Genital Mutilation) and Club members organised a\u00a0 Zoom Burns Night Supper on 25 January to raise funds for the charity Beyond FGM and <a href=\"https:\/\/springfieldsupport.org\/\">Springfield Women&#8217;s Refuge<\/a> in Kendal.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondfgm.com\/\">Beyond FGM<\/a>\u00a0 works in Pokot in Kenya to provide an Alternative Rite of Passage Ceremony for girls and education to all of the community to stop FGM. Springfield\u00a0 provides a refuge for women fleeing domestic abuse and also provides support through their Community Hub.<\/p>\n<p>The evening was a great success with plenty of fun but also fundraising, with an amazing \u00a31100 raised.\u00a0 There was the usual Address to the Haggis, The Selkirk Grace, The Immortal Memory,\u00a0 The Toast to the Lassies and the Reply on behalf of the Lassies.
