{"id":4502,"date":"2020-06-22T10:38:30","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T09:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/guernsey\/?p=4502"},"modified":"2020-06-22T10:38:30","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T09:38:30","slug":"guernsey-soroptimists-celebrated-their-40th-anniversary-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/guernsey\/2020\/06\/22\/guernsey-soroptimists-celebrated-their-40th-anniversary-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Guernsey Soroptimists celebrated their 40th Anniversary this year."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Guernsey Soroptimists celebrated their 40<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lady Corder, our Patron, joined members of Soroptimist International on <strong>Saturday<\/strong><strong> 20<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/strong>, where she planted a tree in Cambridge Park to mark the occasion of the 40<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of Soroptimists in Guernsey.<\/p>\n<p>Followed a wonderful celebratory Afternoon Tea at Les Cotils\u00a0\u00a0 During the afternoon Lady Corder and President Sally Evans addressed the group, and members shared their favourite moments as Soroptimists from the past 40 years.<\/p>\n<p>The event culminated in the cutting of a specially designed cake. Along with toasts to past members, absent friends, friendship links and fellow Soroptimist\u2019s around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Soroptimist International remit is to Empower, Education and Enable women and girls worldwide. This is particularly pertinent this year as it is 100 years since women in Guernsey got the vote. We were going to have a parade through town to mark this historic event in Island History, but sadly, COVID 19 put paid to that. However, the <strong>Guernsey club is currently the only Soroptimist group in the UK to be able to meet in person<\/strong>, thanks to the fantastic job the Bailiwick has done in keeping COVID under control. We are very grateful to all our essential workers for all their hard work.<\/p>\n<p>Quote from President Sally Evans \u2018Soroptimist International Guernsey are delighted to be able to go\u00a0ahead with events to mark the 40th Anniversary of their Charter as part of Soroptimist International; a global organisation with representation on the United Nations Council. Our aim is to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls both locally and internationally\u00a0We are honoured to have Lady Corder to plant a tree in Cambridge Park to commemorate the event and then\u00a0join us for a celebratory tea at Les Cotils. Our members spread over 6 decades and our theme this year is People Partnerships and the Planet.
