Our President’s charity this year is Sheffield Hospitals Dementia Appeal. This appeal is raising money to improve the hospital environment for patients with dementia by, for example, colour coding bed bays to stop people getting lost or replacing signs with pictures instead of words. We have been unable to hold our usual fundraising activities so some of our members decided to help our charity with individual fundraising initiatives. Three members planted indoor bulbs in pretty china bowls and teacups and  made christmas puddings and christmas cakes, which they sold to Club members. We also held a “Lovely Hands’ workshop, which proved a relaxing activity in the run-up to Christmas. The consultant leading the workshop donated 10% of the value of products sold to our charity. Altogether, these activities raised over £400 for our Charity – a great effort during a Tier 3 lockdown. It also

We recently held a coffee morning at a member’s house to raise funds to purchase Starter Packs for YWHP. Three members of staff from WYHP supported us on the day. Excellent weather ensured that the event, which was well attended by members and friends, was a great success, raising over £380 pounds for YWHP.

Yorkshire President Jennie Levick, President Angela and two members of SI Hallamshire joined SI Dewsbury for their 75th Charter Lunch on the North York Moors Railway. We travelled in heritage coaches on the Moorlander train and were served a delicious three course Sunday lunch. Fun and fellowship accompanied by delicious food made for a memorable day.

Members of SI Hallamshire travelled to the National Memorial Arboretum recently to meet members of SI Sutton Coldfield – our friendship link club. Excellent weather helped to ensure that members had an enjoyable day with fellowship and fun. Members visited the many memorials including the Soroptimist memorial. During the day Bozena Benton, President SI Sutton Coldfield, gave Angela Karck, President SI Hallamshire, a box of toiletries for inclusion in the welcome bags that we make for ‘The Young Women’s Housing Project’, which is our President’s charity this year. The YWHP provides therapeutic support for women and children who have been affected by sexual abuse.

She also attended a lunch at a member’s house and enjoyed a pub meal at the Devonshire Arms, Beeley. We very much enjoyed hosting Natalia and learning more about the work of Soroptimists in Poland.
