Club members spent a fantastic day at the Yorkshire Air Museum<\/a> when we attended the \u00a0Soroptimist International of Yorkshire Conference on 29th June.\u00a0The theme of conference was, \u2018From Behind the Scenes to the Front Line\u2019. We were privileged to hear from Iris Newbould, now 94 yrs old and full if vim, and her life as young Land Girl.<\/p>\n

WW2 like WW1 opened up job opportunities for women. Corporal Katherine Height gave us an insight into what\u2019s life like now for a woman serving in today\u2019s RAF.<\/p>\n

The 29th June is Armed Forces Day. and at 12.10 a Hurricane provided a Fly Past tipping it\u2019s wings on the 3rd Approach. So emotional. It reminded us of all the sacrifices Iris\u2019s generation made \u2018just doing our job\u2019 to give us a future.<\/p>\n

Excellent representation from SI Harrogate & District \u00a0with 14 members attending and nearly all clubs in Yorkshire represented. \u00a0Very enjoyable entertainment from Club member \u00a0Di and Jen who got all of us singing \u2018the famous 2nd World War song, \u2018We\u2019ll meet again\u2019. It was an honour to meet our speakers including our guides. The \u00a0staff at the museum looked after us very well.<\/p>\n
