St. Michael\u2019s Hospice Shops, Harrogate Grammar School PTA and Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District teamed up last Saturday to produce a spectacular Fashion Show promoting sustainable fashion, at Harrogate Grammar School.<\/p>\n

The event organiser and \u00a0Club’s Immediate Past President Sandra Frier greeted The Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate Borough, Cllr Trevor and Janet Chapman, Soroptimist International of Yorkshire’<\/a>s President Lindsay Green.<\/p>\n

Just ‘B’<\/h3>\n

An amazing \u00a37,200 was raised for Just\u2019B<\/a>\u2019, part of Saint Michael\u2019s Hospice<\/a>. The Charity provides emotional well-being and bereavement support to children, young people and adults across North Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

Artisan Stalls<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>Guests were able to browse and buy from a selection of Artisan stalls.<\/p>\n

Walking the Catwalk<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Club members, volunteers from Saint Michael’s Hospice shops, students from Harrogate College<\/a> and Harrogate’s own Miss Galaxy took to the catwalk. \u00a0The preloved clothes ranged from casual to evening wear.<\/p>\n

Up-Cycled Outfit Competition<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

The last catwalk range featured an Up-cycled Outfit Competition. \u00a0The original designs, created from clothing, fabrics and accessories \u00a0destined for landfill. Modelled by their creators and volunteers, including students from Harrogate College, volunteers and staff from Ripon Saint Michael\u2019s Hospice Shop and, of course, Soroptimists<\/p>\n

The winning sustainable outfit \u00a0judged by the Mayoress, Janet Chapman, the President of Soroptimist International of Yorkshire, Lindsay Green, and the Chair of the Grammar School PTA, Kirsty Leadham, was designed by a group of four students of the Art & Design Foundation Diploma from Harrogate College.<\/p>\n

Reducing Carbon Emissions<\/h3>\n

It is very opportune that our Fashion Show took place just as the COP26 Climate Change conference was in full swing. The Fashion Show emphasised that by buying pre-loved clothes, we can contribute to slowing the fast fashion cycle and reduce clothing waste. The fashion industry produces more CO2 emissions than aviation and shipping combined!<\/a><\/p>\n

Partnership Working<\/h3>\n

Sandra Frier, Immediate Past President of SI Harrogate and District and organiser of the event said \u201cI must thank everyone who contributed today but especially the Saint Michael\u2019s Hospice Shops, our generous sponsors and advertisers from across the Harrogate business community. Also, \u00a0Elaine Gill, House of Colour Personal Stylist and Annabel Smith, Lecturer at Harrogate College, for her invaluable help at the Show. The result was an exceptional amount of money raised for Just \u2019B\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
