Food Poverty Action Project – Project Update<\/h4>\n

We are half way through our 2 year project to help eliminate hunger by working with other organisations to ensure families have sufficient food to eat a healthy diet every day.<\/p>\n

Race Against Hunger 2024<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n


\nFund Raising\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

So far we\u2019ve raised over \u00a34000. Some directly to Trussell Race Against Hunger and a Concert for Resurrected Bites . And the rest distributed to our local food banks in Wetherby and District Foodbank, Harrogate District Foodbank , Salvation Army Ripon & St Cuthbert\u2019s in Nidderdale & Resurrected Bites Community Shop.<\/p>\n

Bring a Tin<\/b><\/p>\n

More than half a tonne (500kgs) from our \u2018Bring A Tin\u2019 to meetings \u00a0been distributed to Food Banks.<\/p>\n

Giving Service<\/b><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve given nearly a thousand hours of service in various capacities, from volunteering at Resurrected Bites Pay as you Can cafes, manning stalls at Christmas Markets and Car Boot Sale, garden parties, \u00a0and a lot of knitting and baking.<\/p>\n

Raising Awareness\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

We have raised awareness about the impact of hunger with our prospective parliamentary candidates in all three constituency\u2019s our Club covers. We will be contacting our sitting MPs about Child Poverty and the increasing need for people to use food banks.<\/p>\n

Helping others\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

We know that the money and donations we\u2019ve made \u00a0are equivalent to help stave hunger for about over 400 people for 3 days. Food Banks aren\u2019t the answer to poverty but with 1 in 7 children (over 4 million children) \u00a0living in poverty we can\u2019t turn a blind eye.<\/p>\n

Soroptimist Response<\/b>
\nMany Soroptimist Clubs across the UK are supporting Food Banks, running cafe\u2019s & cookery courses etc. We need to use our collective voice to influence on \u00a0social policy issues affecting women and children.. The gap between income and the cost of living \u00a0is affecting so many families especially children and one parent families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
