ALZHEIMER\u2019S UK AND DEMENTIA FRIENDS<\/strong><\/p>\n

At their September meeting, Harrogate and District Soroptimists welcomed Alison Wrigglesworth, Services Manager for the Alzheimer\u2019s Society, for Ripon, Harrogate & Craven,York and Selby.<\/p>\n

Alison explained that alzheimers disease is the most common cause of dementia. She then guided us through a few practical tasks, which really got us thinking about what it means to be a person living with the disease.<\/p>\n

She told us about some of the services which are run locally including Singing for the Brain and Dementia Cafes, which provide people with dementia and carers a platform to talk openly about living with dementia, in a relaxed and informal environment.<\/p>\n

Alison explained that she is a Champion of Dementia Friends, which is an Alzheimer\u2019s Society initiative, working to change the way that people think, act and talk about dementia.<\/p>\n

In thanking Alison for her talk, President Nicola said \u2018You have really raised our level of understanding of how we can support the Alzheimer\u2019s Society and how, as a Dementia Friend, we can all decide to take some action to help someone or help to raise awareness in our community\u2019.<\/p>\n
