Oxfam\u2019s winning window<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Members of Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District who live in Wetherby and a member of Welcome to Wetherby spent the morning of the 7th \u201cDecember looking at and judging the charity shop windows in Wetherby. The judging criteria were Innovation, Impact and the Spirit of Christmas. There are ten charity shops in Wetherby. The judges were impressed with how some shops had interpreted this. The winner is Oxfam, whose eye-catching windows – a sumptuous dining table from another era and a Night before Christmas caught the judges imagination. Leonard Cheshire Disability\u2019s window was full of the Spirit of Christmas and highly commended by the judges.<\/p>\n

This year the Club is delighted to present the Gill Smith Memorial Cup to the Winning shop. Gill Smith gave great service to the Club over many years raising money for the Club charities and supporting Gurka Widows. Gill received an Honorary Membership from the \u00a0Club in recognition of her commitment to Soroptimist International. President Nicola Harding and the Mayor of Wetherby Cllr Norma Harrington announced the winner and highly Commended shops \u00a0on the 14th December at the Town Hall at the Welcome to Wetherby Shop Window Competition presentations.<\/p>\n

Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District is part of an international women\u2019s voluntary Service organisation with Clubs and members throughout the world. Its main objective is to improve the lives of women and girls. The Club runs Charity Shop Window Competitions throughout the main towns in the area to acknowledge the role of the volunteers that work in them and for the work many charities do in supporting women and children locally and globally.
