President’s message 2018 -2019

Welcome to Soroptimist International of Hertford and District.
I am pleased to be serving my second term as President of our local club.
This year my theme will be “Women with Purpose”. I have invited a number of women (and one man, who worked with a woman of great purpose) to speak to us about their work or volunteering rôles and I look forward to varied and interesting meetings.
My chosen charity this year is Carers in Hertfordshire, a local charity which supports the needs of unpaid carers, including young carers, those between 6 and 18. I have invited a speaker from the Young Carers department of the charity to speak to us in July and I am hoping a young carer will be able to join her to tell us the reality of being a young carer.
We will also continue to support both Safer Places, our local Women’s Refuge, and the Living Room in Stevenage, a centre treating addictions of all sorts which can be instrumental in keeping women out of prison. We will also be holding our annual and very popular Tea Party to raise funds for Isabel Hospice
Alongside the fundraising, we enjoy meeting for social events and for our monthly speaker meetings on the first Monday of most months, preceded by a light meal. This year we have a mixture of Princes, cakes, poppies and civil rights, among other topics; details can be found in our programme.
If you would like to know more, do get in touch with us or come along to a speaker meeting, or indeed to any of our events. We would love to see you and you can be assured of a very warm welcome.
