Regional Meeting and Celebration of Human Rights Day, Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury<\/h2>\n

SI Hertford & District had the honour of hosting this meeting and a good number of us turned out to help.<\/p>\n

Celebration of Human Rights Day 2015 <\/strong> Regional President Pam (SI Hertford & District) read from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights signed on 10 December 1948 and lit a candle to remember those in the world who are still denied their human rights.\u00a0 Pam then read the poignant poem We Refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah.<\/p>\n

President of SI Hertford & District Sarah Newstead read an extract from an article in the Telegraph about women in Ghana called \u201cQueen Mothers\u201d and lit a candle to celebrate the work of women across the world.<\/p>\n

Regional President Elect Jen Simpson of SI High Wycombe & District read an article from the December edition of Soroptimist News by Pam Allinson, SIGBI APD Education and lit a candle to celebrate the work of Soroptimists across SIGBI federation.<\/p>\n

Kate Belinis a new member of SI Hertford read a letter from their link Club in Turkey and lit a candle to celebrate the work of Soroptimists across the world.<\/p>\n

Members then stood while Immediate Past Federation President Jenny read the Vision and Mission of Soroptimist International.<\/p>\n

President Pam thanked everyone for their donations to the International President\u2019s 10 December Appeal for Women and Girls in Nepal.<\/p>\n

The meeting then went on to hear from Speaker – Jan Dalrymple from Safer Place (Women\u2019s Refuge). President Pam reminded us that the theme for her year is A Better Tomorrow for Women Today and this is a very apt description of the work done by our speaker Jan Dalrymple CEO of Safer Places.<\/p>\n

Regional President Pam announced that it will be SI Hertford\u2019s 60th<\/sup> Charter Anniversary in 2016 and the Club is holding an event at Mayflower Place on 30 April, to which members from the region are cordially invited.<\/p>\n
