The first meeting of the new year challenged the Hertford and District <\/span>Club to consider What is Art?<\/span><\/div>\n
We had a very lively and enjoyable evening <\/span>with much member participation. In line with the 2016\/17 theme of <\/span>‘Women and the arts’ members were asked to ‘Think about some things <\/span>they regarded as ‘art” and bring up to 3 items.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The evening began <\/span>with <\/span>a powerpoint presentation of women across the world\u00a0working in\u00a0<\/span>different ‘art’ forms – from architecture to painting;\u00a0<\/span>decorative glass <\/span>to book illustration;\u00a0<\/span>singing to theatre; poetry to fashion design; film to choreography.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Members, working in small groups,\u00a0whole-heartedly discussed the ‘items’ they had brought,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>which ranged across the ‘arts’ but the most interesting and <\/span>fascinating part of <\/span>the <\/span>evening was members’ willingness to share the personal\u00a0story <\/span>behind\u00a0their chosen item.<\/span><\/div>\n
