{"id":823,"date":"2019-01-14T18:20:02","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T17:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/hertford-and-district\/?p=823"},"modified":"2019-01-14T18:20:02","modified_gmt":"2019-01-14T17:20:02","slug":"5th-november-2018-speaker-meeting-jennifer-thomas-poppies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/hertford-and-district\/2019\/01\/14\/5th-november-2018-speaker-meeting-jennifer-thomas-poppies\/","title":{"rendered":"5th November 2018 &#8211; Speaker Meeting Jennifer Thomas: Poppies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At our Speaker Meeting on the 5th November we listened to Jennifer Thomas talk about &#8221; From Flanders Field to the Tower&#8221;<br \/>\nThis was a very suitable subject as we neared the centenary of the 1918 Armistice.\u00a0 Jennifer talked about the evolution of the poppy as the memorial of the Great War and subsequent wars since.<br \/>\nShe mentioned the dreadful cramped conditions of the military hospitals on line and one man who served in the Medical Corps. This was Colonel John MCCREA who was a doctor and a poet.
