President’s Message 2017
A member of SI Heswall & District since 2013 following a transfer from S I Birkenhead where I was a member since 2006. For the last two years I have served as Club Treasurer a role which I have greatly enjoyed. I also held this role within the Birkenhead Club in the 2 years before my transfer.
I have enjoyed a lifetime career in the NHS having qualified initially as an SRN in 1967 then undertaking post graduate clinical and academic qualifications and holding posts within clinical, research, education and public health across the North West and South Yorkshire. After leaving the NHS in 2011, I undertook various NHS projects eventually retiring in April 2014.
However I do lead an active life in retirement within a variety of roles as an NHS Public Governor, a Trustee for a local Charity, a volunteer guide at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, a member of the Soroptimist Breakfast Club Team at Tomorrows Women Wirral as well as involvement in various faith groups
For 2017 – 2018 our club will continue its focus on Programme Action, continuing our work and volunteering with our longstanding commitments including WWCA, Tomorrows Women Wirral, Hoylake Cottage and the quarterly Beach Clean. This year our fundraising effort will encompass an international charity, Health Help International in its work with women and girls in India and Africa, our national charity will support the Macmillan Charity and our local charity is Hoylake Cottage where I had the honour of being appointed as the first Matron Manager when it re-opened in 1984.
As a service organisation we aim to be fully aware of issues that affect society on every level. The theme I have chosen for my year is ‘Communications’ and to that end included within the programme are speakers who will raise awareness and inform, our social activities will provide fun and camaraderie. I am committed to upholding the vision and mission of Soroptimism and feel honoured to be leading a club whose members are committed, enthusiastic and motivated.
We welcome guests to our speaker meetings and social events and be assured you will be made to feel extremely welcome. If you would like to get in touch, please use the email address or telephone number on the contact page.
