Presidents’ Message 2019-2020

Presidents Sue Donovan and Glenys Hunt

Heswall and District club this year is going to have two people job sharing the presidency for its 70th anniversary year– Sue Donovan and Glenys Hunt.

Sue’s career was in teaching. She worked for Service Children’s Education in various European locations. As a member of SI Heswall she has been both President and Programme Action chair.  Since retiring from teaching Sue has become very involved with Mary’s Meals and now works as one of their local ambassadors. She sponsored a kitchen in Malawi and has twice visited the country.

Glenys has had two careers, the first as a biomedical scientist in the NHS, the second as a personal injury and clinical negligence solicitor. She is currently carrying out research for a PhD at Liverpool University.  Glenys has held the posts of club President and Programme Action Officer, and joint Regional Programme Action Officer. She is currently the vice-chair of UKPAC.

Our big project for the year is to make Heswall a toilet twinned town, following the example of our daughter club, Chester. In addition, we want to twin 70 toilets in total through the year, as well as donating 70 twiddle muffs to Arrowe Park Hospital and 70 pairs of socks to Charles Thompson. It’s going to be a busy year! Our theme for the year is “Working in Partnership”. Our charities are Toilet Twinning (, Young Carers Wirral and the Alzheimer’s Society  (– the latter reflecting the Federation President’s theme of mental health.
