President’s Message 2018
SI Heswall & District 2018 – 2019 President Maureen Sayer
Maureen Sayer has been a Soroptimist for thirteen years, first in SI Liverpool and then following her retirement, with the encouragement of President Jean Schroeder, she transferred to SI Heswall & District. She has participated with PAC,Publicity, Membership and Executive Committees.
Her theme for the year is Education because of the different roles she held during her career both in the NHS and Further Education. She trained at Clatterbridge General Hospital where she became a Registered General Nurse, followed by Part 1 Midwifery, Health Visiting, Field work Teaching, Lecturing & Health Promotion. In Health Promotion she worked on Heart Disease, Physical Activity, Diabetes, Asthma and various Cancers. She was the Advanced Health Improvement Practitioner for the Cheshire and Merseyside Bowel Screening Programme covering eight Primary Care Trusts and subsequently was the Liverpool Health Promotion Specialist for Cancers covering breast, bowel, cervical, skin, lung and prostate cancers.
Resources encouraging awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer were developed by her for people with Learning Disabilities and the BME Communities thus resulting in earlier diagnosis. Participating in the strategic work of the Breast, Bowel & Cervical Working Groups and presenting on the Radio, at Training Courses and Conferences were part of this role.
Her Charity for the year as President is SUDEP Action which deals with families bereaved by Epilepsy.
Maureen is passionate about women and children’s health and belonging to SI Heswall enables her to be part of a group of like minded women who support various SI charities.
