Visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool
Monday 18th December, saw President Veronica in her red guide’s cape welcoming seven club members to the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and the Carol Concert by the Belvedere Academy. The cathedral was adorned with festive decorations and there was a wonderful presentation by soloists, choirs and orchestra – very many talented young ladies, a definite date for our diary next year! We then had a literal whistle stop tour around the cathedral. As time was running out the visit to the Lutyens Crypt was postponed and we all retired to the Piazza cafe for refreshments after a photo opportunity at the bottom of the steps!
On Thursday 14th December the Liverpool President Dorothy Zac Williams and her husband attended our wonderful International Lunch with our traditional celebration of the lighting of candles in honour of our SI Federations. Our Regional President, Hilary Laidlaw, was also in attendance and our Guest Speaker, Lynne Vaughan from Women’s International World Day of Prayer was warmly received as she told us of the shared values and ethos of both of our organisations as well as enlightening us about the fact that only lady reindeers have antlers at Christmas!
President’s Charter Lunch
President Veronica with Regional President Denise and Regional President Elect Hilary
On 22nd October President Veronica and members of SI Heswall were delighted to welcome Soroptimists and friends to their 68th Annual Charter Lunch. Regional President Denise, Regional President Elect Hilary and several Club Presidents joined us to celebrate this occasion. An excellent lunch was followed by a very amusing talk by Linda McDermott from BBC Merseyside who drew on her experiences in radio broadcasting to illustrate the importance of President Veronica’s theme of communication and the work of Soroptimists.

Tissington Well Dressing
A group of Heswall Soroptimists together with members of Birkenhead Soroptimists and friends visited Tissington in Derbyshire to see the 2017 well dressing. Fine weather made for a very enjoyable day with lunch arranged in the village, time to see the wells and also a visit to Tissington Hall.
Drab to Fab evening
A Social Meeting was held on January 12th for members to catch up after the Christmas break. Two guests joined us – Hazel Williams entertained us about transforming our wardrobes from drab to fab. Hazel is an inspirational speaker! We also heard from Pam’s grand daughter, Jess, about her trip to Tanzania with a group from her university who spent time helping a school project. The evening also raised money for Breast Cancer charities.
