75th Anniversary Celebration Dinner Friday 4th June
Approximately 90 Soroptimist members and guests gathered at the Old Golf House Hotel to celebrate our 75th anniversary with an excellent dinner. A photographic power point display of members and events sampling virtually the entire time span was a source of much interest and discussion, while a specially designed celebration cake was much admired.
Our guests included the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Andrew Palfreeman who proposed a toast to Soroptimist International. Federation President, Jackie Mosedale responded and then made a number of Long Service Awards. A toast to Soroptimist International of Huddersfield was made by Andrew Schofield, a member of Freemasonry, and a response was made by Anna Giraud. Anne Cryer, JP, who is a past Member of Parliament and a member of SI Keighley, gave a moving speech covering her former work as an MP, and in particular, her role in achieving legislation against forced marriage. A toast to Our Guests was proposed by Anne Chadwick and the response was made by Yorkshire Regional President, Judith Alce.
