Ilkley Soroptimists entertained a visitor from the Soroptimist Club in Plauen ,Vogtland , Germany last week, prior to her being a guest at the Regional Conference in York. Formerly, in East Germany, Plauen famous for its lace was the very first town to hold demonstrations in the Peaceful Revolution that culminated in The Wall coming down. llkley Soroptimists heard about life under differing regimes, the culture of the region and the work of the Plauen Soroptimist club. This included leading service groups in Plauen to erect a 60,000 Euro memorial to remember the Peaceful Revolution. Ilkley members were especially invited to visit Plauen. As Soroptimists, members are welcome to visit any other club in the UK or worldwide. There is also a London Residential Club on Bayswater Road that Soroptimists can use to entertain, visit London or stay before travelling overseas.
