Business meeting May 2025

Minutes of the Business Meeting of SI Ilkley held on Thursday 8 May 2025

  1. The Vision and Mission statement was read by Joint Regional President Sue

2.Apologies: Anne, Jo, Marian, Pauline

3. The Minutes of the Business Meeting on 10 April were accepted as a true record
4. Matters Arising: a) Joy thanked everyone who volunteered for the Carnival. Chris will be liaising with Mary Moore re volunteers next year. It was agreed any monies donated specifically from a carnival, should be highlighted in a particular project and the specific outcome/ action & fed back to the Carnival Committee. It was proposed 4 members needed to staff the shift 11.30- 1.00 pm. Joy was thanked for her work on the rotas over the last few years. b)It was reported Jo had seen sufficient bats and balls are available for the table tennis tables. The Tennis Wall has also been painted.c) Jenny was thanked for a superb lunch on May 1st. Jenny reported £130 has been raised. d) a card and a plant has been sent to Elizabeth to acknowledge her long service and contribution to the Ilkley Club. e) a cheque for £500 being the proceeds of the Yorkshire Quiz, has been presented to Nell Bank. f) it was agreed the Minutes Secretary for the Business Meeting be agreed at the executive meeting and the chair for the coming month should attend the executive for the month prior and the month after they are in post as chair, in order to aid continuity through the year.

5. Secretary’s Business. a)Jenny as coordinator highlighted the need to agree diary arrangements for International Women’s Day 2026. Joy introduced the idea of an event for the town and how we may access the council awards scheme to fund an event.After discussion, Sue proposed a possible topic namely , ‘ Internet Safety for Women’. Margaret agreed to contact Charlotte Atkinson as a possible speaker. Chris also thought the White Ribbon campaign could be highlighted and/ or involved. It was agreed a small group would be needed to secure a grant, plan and promote the event in the town. ( Joy, Margaret, Gill, Sue to also liaise internally with Programme Action). b) Joint Regional President Judith has been sent an invitation to 2 Ilkley meetings, otherwise Judith can also suggest a convenient date. c) an Ilkley Soroptimists Dinner date 2026? It was felt it could possibly be somehow related to the IWD ( a breakfast? or brunch?) or, plan a more informal lunch for the region and partners with a suggested date of 5 April. The IWD date would take precedence. d)Jenny has had a request to send in nil returns for regional club events. Whilst this is complex, Jo as Secretary, is asked to complete any nil returns where no Ilkley members are unable to attend an event.Members are also asked to let Jo know if they are attending a particular event.

6. Treasurer’s Report: paid out: Nell Bank £500, Tennis Wall £208.40 , Table tennis balls/ bats £55.86, Card/Plant £15.50., wine nibbles AGM £23.50, Rent ( Jan, Feb, March) £216.30. Total: £1019.56
Bank: contingency £700, Charity £ 1638.70, Hospitality £ 975.68,
penny pot £19. Gill reported that on 13 May she was handing over the
Cheque from Jean for £30,to Staying Put who run the Keighley Refuge.
7. Programme Action: a) Janet had not had a reply from Region re the SIGBI cervical cancer initiative.It was agreed not to send a SIGBI requested letter to the MP until we had more information re statistics and results , including data from public health reports. The regional programme action meeting will shed light on how other clubs are taking any initiatives forward. b) Janet reported problems were resurfacing at ‘Together Women’. Paid staff changes were making the role of volunteers uncertain, although volunteer engagement is valued by the clients.c) Margaret asked everyone to promote, take tickets(£5), quiz sheets (£1)and especially posters for the Garden Wander on July 5th. The next planning meeting is on Thursday 15May. d) Chris reported on Dan Goodey’s kind arrangements for the club to visit Nell Bank.it could be on a ‘ Holiday Activity& Food Event’ aimed at children on free school meals. Nell Bank supplies 1500 places over 3 days. Or on a ticketed ‘Discovery Day’, 600 people expected on each of 4 days. Or, for a summer evening tour of the centre with a fish and chip supper. There could be the potential to hold a meeting there ? ( July Business Meeting where the cheque from the Garden Wander could be presented.e) UN Environmental Day on 5 June.. The Regional Programme Action Meeting may give a more specific focus for clubs as the 2025 partner is The Woodland Trust. f) ideas are invited for the 16 days of Activism in November g) Julia offered to be more involved in Programme Action initiatives if she had the knowledge to help a specific project.
8. Visits and Summer Outings: Margaret is taking monies for the Regional Council meeting on 14 June at Wentworth Woodhouse £38.50. The Leeds Library visit is on 14 August, cost to follow. Loraine and Joy would look into a summer visit to Parcevall Hall.
9. Care and Concern. A card for Glen, members to sign was available in the meeting. Jenny is sending her the Newsletter. Glen has had a fall and is currently in hospital.
10. Today being the 80th Anniversary of VE Day , the meeting was followed by 1945 drinks and fancies.
