Our New Year – reflecting on Recent Events and Planning for 2014-15
As for a lot of voluntary organisations and clubs our new year starts in April. It is the time for AGMs and annual accounts. It is a time for reflecting on the year gone and see just how much has been achieved and to look forward to the coming year and what we aim to do. It is a bit like a ‘spring clean’. We are no different and our current Club President, Pat Dowding, is taking the lead.
At our AGMs and again at our September meetings we collect filled toiletry bags for those women (and children) who have the need to use the services of Lighthouse refuges. In all, we collect in the region of 100 bags a year to support those women. It is an easy thing to do, but makes a great difference to the recipients. This AGM we hope to be surrounded by such bags to be delivered. It does make it all worthwhile.
Towards the end of our last club year we held an afternoon fashion show and afternoon tea to raise funds for our Education Bursary. Many thanks to Bijou Boutique and Chapters Restaurant at the Ipswich Institute for making the occasion both enjoyable and profitable.
Working in partnership with other organisations has been very much in vogue in recent years. We continued that early in Pat’s year with a Quiz Night event with partnering with the catering students at Suffolk New College, who provided the food, and Rob Dunger of BBC Radio Suffolk who was our Quiz Master for the evening.
And in September we were the beneficiaries of funds raised at a wonderful concert from the St Paul’s Cathedral Organist at Gt Wenham Church.
Time now to plan events for 2015-16.
