Welcome to No More Taboo Period 2019
This is our inaugural Period campaign starting our 28 day conversation, on Saturday 9th March we will be located in Brook St, between Jack Wills and Hamon’s. We will be collecting sanitary products between 10am-4pm to re-distribute to The Red Box Project, The Bridge and The Women’s Refuge amongst other organisations.
We would be delighted if you would like to organise a collection at your place of work, or for more any more information, then please email soroptimistsjersey@gmail.com to arrange pick up.
NO MORE TABOO Objectives
1. Destigmatise the topic of Periods and all the issues around it
From your first period through to menopause, menstruation is a normal, healthy
biological function that is a part of being female. This Soroptimist International
Jersey campaign aims to break through the taboo we have as a society about
menstrual shame.
2. Promote sustainable, healthy FemCare alternatives
According to the Women’s Environmental Network, a woman will go through an
average of more than 11,000 disposable menstrual products throughout the course
of her life, which is an extraordinary amount of waste. Tampons, pads and panty
liners amount to more than 200,000 tonnes of waste per year. Alternatives are
now available to ensure we can show greater consideration towards the environment
and our bodies! From organic cotton disposables to period pants to menstrual
cups, make yours a plastic free period.
3. Support The Red Box Project tackling Period Poverty in Jersey
A community-based, not-for-profit initiative, which aims to support girls by providing
red boxes filled with free sanitary products in schools. The Red Box Project was
founded in the UK in 2017 by three friends. After reading about ‘Period Poverty‘ in
the news, they were angered at the idea that young women were missing out on
their education because they couldn’t afford the products they needed during their
period. Now The Red Box Campaign is in Jersey.
