October Business meeting

We had a very busy meeting with two speakers before we started the main body of business.

Daisy Bramwell was a very assured young lady who is lucky enough to have been selected to take part on a Guiding service project in Peru.   She hopes to be working with children in a nursery and then trek the Machu Picchu trail to complete her experience.  All candidates are required to raise £2000 themselves, not via the Bank of Mum and Dad.  Daisy is doing really well with her target and is a very determined person, just the sort of future Soroptimist we like to meet.   We have a fund raising event for her later this year, and look forward to hearing about how she gets on in 2020.

President Sandra and Cathy Edwards (Little Ray of Sunshine Dementia Cafe).   Cathy and a friend set up the monthly café in Kenilworth as a place for both carer and person living with dementia to go for a few hours to enjoy time together in a dementia friendly environment.   Cathy explained just how stressful and difficult she had found it to take her own mum out for the simple pleasure of an outing of a cup of tea and how this had prompted her to set the café up.   Funding is not the issue however the café has been a great success and more volunteers are needed to help out.
